Welcome to the June edition of the Tenant Engagement News Bulletin! Summer has finally arrived and the increase in temperatures will hopefully mean more time outdoors and the opportunity to engage in a range of summer activities with TORC. This month, you can get involved by sharing your Father’s Day activities, completing the survey for training AND there is still 4 days left to enter the Cycle Safety Competition to be in with a chance to win an electric bike.

TORC Scheme Updates:

In May, we welcomed 16 new residents to Cluain Ailbhe in Clane and 3 residents to Pairc Goodman in Skibbereen. We have just 7 allocations to complete in Clane until all 465 TORC homes are fully allocated – a very exciting time for the TORC team!

And finally, happy Pride month to all our LGBTQI+ residents and allies to the community! TORC will be posting a summary of all the Pride celebrations across the country on our social media so you know what’s going on in your area.

‘Bike Doctor’ Events for Bike Week

Together with community bike workshop groups Cycle Sense in Skibbereen and An Mheitheal Rothar in Galway, TORC had a busy month hosting ‘Bike Doctor’ events. We had more than 70 people attend these two events and around 46 bikes were fixed up ready for our residents to go summer cycling! We hope residents learnt a lot from the repair demonstrations and enjoyed the bike accessories giveaways. Thank you to everyone who came along to support these initiatives.

We have had requests from residents in Macroom to take this initiative to their scheme so keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming Bike Doctor event Pairc Ui Mhuirithe residents!

Neighbours day bulb planting – Winning Scheme Announced 

Last month we asked residents to register for flower bulbs to share with their neighbours and to send TORC a photo to celebrate European Neighbours Day. We had a fantastic response with 46 bulb packs posted out.

Congratulations to the residents of Pairc Thiar in Clonakilty who will receive a €100 Garden Shop voucher to spend on their community space (this will be provided to the Resident Group). Well done to residents Kathryn and Mary who sent in photos of their group planting activities – Mary captioned the photos ‘neighbours together creating memories forever’, which the TORC team loved. Thank you also to Ewelina in Clane who shared this lovely photo of her son with his freshly planted bulbs.

1/ Cycle Safety Competition – 4 days left to submit!

How can your scheme become more cycle friendly?

This competition is for children aged 15 and under and for young people aged 16-25. Visit our website for more details or email getinvolved@torcsustainablehousing.ie if you have any questions. Closing date is 12th June 2022.

2/ Father’s Day Raffle 

Are you celebrating Father’s Day in a special way?

Maybe you are making a card or drawing a picture, writing a poem, or doing something else creative to show your dad how special he is on Father’s Day?

We have a prize of €30 Just Eat Vouchers for three special Fathers. Send us a photo of how you celebrated Father’s Day this year in a creative way, and you will be added into the raffle for the prizes. Photos can be sent by WhatsApp to 087 627 5605 or by email to getinvolved@torcsustainablehousing.ie. Closing date 26th June 2022.

3/ Survey: What training would you like TORC to provide for residents?

Over the past year, TORC has offered residents the opportunity to undertake a First Aid Training Course free of charge. We are delighted that around 40 residents completed this training either online or in person. This month will be the last month of the First Aid Training sponsorship as we will be changing our training course from July.  This month of June will be the last month to request to attend First Aid Training, so if you are interested please visit the First Aid section of the TORC website.

Please note that TORC will continue to consider sponsorship of First Aid Training if a proposal is made from a group of residents from a scheme. TORC will also be organizing the Little Heroes Training for children of Drom Cuilinn in Shannon due to the positive response from last month’s News Bulletin.

Now that the First Aid training opportunities have come to an end, we want to hear from YOU – what training would you like TORC to offer next?

4/ TORC Top Tips for Tenants

For this Month’s #TORCTopTipsForTenants  we are asking our residents to check their Thermostat if they are experiencing issues with their heating.

The TORC Maintenance team have been called out a number of times by residents over the last month to fix heating that was ‘not working’. However, when the technician arrived, he discovered that there was nothing wrong with the heating – only that the wall mounted Thermostat was set to a temperature below 18 degrees. This is what was making the house/apartment feel cold.

So, if you are experiencing problems with your heating – check the thermostat first! and if a problem still persists, then contact the TORC Helpdesk.
