February TORC News Bulletin
|
Congratulations on making it through the whole month of January! February is here and there is definitely a ‘grand stretch in the evenings’ these days. Did you know that we are currently in the middle of Chinese Lunar New Year festivities? It runs from February 1st to 15th, and this year is the year of the Tiger!
This month, you can get involved by getting creative and entering the photo competition for Valentine’s Day (it’s not just all about romance!), telling us how you overcame a challenge for the Resilience Campaign, attending First Aid training and of course attending a Community or Residents Group meeting in your area. You can also get prepared for the St Patrick’s & Mother’s Day initiatives happening in March.
TORC Scheme updates:
Last month we welcomed new residents to 51 homes in Skibbereen, Clonakilty and Clane. Over the next month we will be handing over the keys to 11 properties in Cluaine Ailbhe-Clane.
Before I go, just a quick reminder to everyone to head over to Facebook and follow TORC – it’s a handy way to keep up to date throughout the month.

You Said, We Listened! Tenant Engagement Survey 2022
|
In January, residents were encouraged to complete a 12-question survey that covered areas such as training & education, dates/ holidays to celebrate, creative interests, environmental projects and ways to improve TORC schemes. There were a lot of fantastic and varied ideas and suggestions that will now be input into this year’s Tenant Engagement Calendar of Events and into our strategy over the next few years.
Some of the positive feedback that residents left in the open comment section at the end filled the TORC team with pride. A big thank you to all of you who participated – there were also some great suggestions on how we can improve our service which we will try our best to implement.
“I think Torc housing are doing an amazing job, and glad to be part of the community, keep up all the good work”
“I think the work you do is incredible and a fantastic framework for all such developments.”
“Just to say I love my home and am so happy here. It has been a real life changer”
Congratulations to the raffle prize winners, your vouchers will be in the post to you shortly.

3/ St. Patrick’s Day Irish Brown Bread Competition
|
What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than with that classic Irish staple – Brown Bread! We are challenging our residents to get baking this March and present to us your home baked loaf. Of course we can’t actually taste a slice BUT points will go to presentation skills, recipe choice, the photos and telling us how the baking process went for you.
Do you have a traditional family recipe? Is this the first time you’ve EVER baked an Irish Brown Bread Loaf? Did your children get involved? What interesting ingredients have you included – nuts & seeds, Guinness?!
We are asking residents to submit their photos and information to us anytime between March 17th and 20th, so now you have some time to plan and buy the ingredients. As always, we have some great prizes:

5/ First Aid Training opportunities
|
Due to the popularity of First Aid Training in the Tenant Engagement Survey, we will be providing more training opportunities throughout 2022. TORC has partnered up with the Parent First Aid Training company and are offering residents the ability to attend one of their in-person training sessions around the country. TORC will be sponsoring the €40 attendance cost for residents living in our Waterford, Kildare, and Galway schemes. Check out our website for more information on how to register and the upcoming training dates.
Training Dates in February and March
For residents living in our Roscommon, Macroom, Shannon, Skibbereen & Clonakilty schemes, we are looking to provide a private group class with a qualified trainer. However, we would need a minimum of 10 residents for this to be organised. Please complete the survey below to express your interest. Residents will be contacted if there is enough interest from their scheme.

6/ TORC Top Tips for Tenants
|
Last month’s #TORCTopTipsforTenants was on the critical issue of child safety in the home. This subject was highlighted by our Repairs team at Derwent who noticed that some households did not have safety devices installed with their new blinds despite, having young children in the home.
Over the past number of years there have been tragic accidents in Ireland where young children were fatally entangled in blind cords. To avoid this, follow the safety guidelines highlighted below and check out the tips and helpful video on the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission website in collaboration with the HSE.
