Douglas Drive Resident Group Hosts Their First Community Event – A Winter Wonderland!
The recently established Douglas Drive Resident Group hosted their First community Winter Wonderland themed event on Saturday the 11th of December.
The event was a smash success with 123 residents and their close friends and family attending the event. The Resident Group’s committee had only been established at their first meeting on 11/11/21 but with the support of the resident group members they managed to organise a fantastic community event in a very short space of time. This event was an exciting moment for the Resident’s Group as it marked the coming together of a new community and the celebration of their first year in Douglas Drive.
There were musical performances and Christmas carols from local operatic singer Darren O’Hara and the Roscommon Community College Choir as well a nail biting hour long performance by the Corvinni Circus. Of course there was a very special opportunity for children on the housing scheme to visit Santa in his grotto and post their letters in Santa’s big red post box. This included a ‘quiet visit time’ to support children with additional needs. The Resident Group had even prepared goodie bags for all of the children that included magic Reindeer food and hot chocolate
The event was also a fundraiser in aid of local trust ‘Join Our Boys’ and by running a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses and a donation from TORC, this event raised a total of €758.00.
