Cycle Safety Competition Winners
Congratulations to the winners of the Cycle Safety Competition. Aya aged 18 from Drom Cuilinn in Shannon will receive the amazing prize of a foldable electric bike and Grace aged 8 from Clairin in Galway will receive a €300 Halford Voucher to spend on a new bike or bike accessories. The judging panel loved their ideas to make their scheme a safer place for cyclists. These included:
- A public bicycle repair stand
- Bicycle stand for parking bikes
- Road markings with bike signs
- Cycle safety workshops – making sure everyone knows the key safety equipment and behaviours of cycling like hand signals and wearing a helmet and a high vis vest
TORC can provide nominal funding towards initiatives such as these and is committed to supporting communities, and particular residents’ groups, to apply for their own funding from other sources to make these important improvements to their scheme.

5/ TORC Top Tips for Tenants
|
There are 310 TORC homes that have the Solic 200 Solar Panels in operation. All TORC homes which run on gas heating also have Solar panels, these are: Cluain Ailbhe, Drom Cuilinn, Clairin, Presentation Gardens and Pairc Ui Mhuirithe. The remaining schemes in Roscommon, Skibbereen and Clonakilty have ‘Air to Water’ heating systems.
This month, John our Technical Advisor from the Repairs & Maintenance team has put together some key pieces of information on how the Solar Panels should operate. The Repairs team are called out fairly often for Solar Panel queries so it’s important for residents to know that different colour lights are displayed on the panel at different times as they are changeable with the weather. Only if you have a constant red light under the ‘mains’ should you contact the Helpdesk for assistance.
